Coastal Resources (OPC) Private Limited

BlueGreen is a social enterprise based in Kerala, India which was set up by Dr. Johnson Jament in 2023 for continuing to promote education, culture and research as well as sustainable development activities with the artisanal coastal communities – Coastal Indigenous Peoples in India. The enterprise is a development of over a decade of learning, research, activism and community engagements.

Main Objectives

To research, plan, and implement solutions based on Indigenous and Local Knowledge, and Practices supporting the sustainable development of coastal communities and responsible marine resource use. This includes needs assessments, eco- friendly ocean technologies, fish stock assessments and marine biodiversity evaluations, and integrating ILK with cultural and linguistic diversity. Our work fosters a sustainable artisanal fishing, plastic-free environments, localised weather information services for fishers, ocean literacy, and communication around coastal and ocean issues. We align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, promoting educational initiatives on sustainable resource use, intergenerational learning, coastal pedagogies, biocultural diversity, alongside teacher training, and guidance for overseas studies. We support innovations in coastal technologies, renewable energy, marine debris management and preservation of Indigenous languages. Our initiatives also include establishing digital and physical libraries, community learning centres, community media platforms, and vocational guidance centres, coastal and marine tourism activities. We also support community-led development in collaboration with community organisations. Additionally, we offer consultancy services on sustainable development, blue economy, Indigenous issues, small scale fisheries, and inclusive research, in collaboration with research institutions, UN agencies and other organisations.
